With the death of four more persons at The New Ciivil Hospital here the
death toll due to the leptospirosis epidemic in south Gujarat has risen to
16. Sources said here on Wednesday that the four were farm labours, two of
whom died at Vyara taluka and one each in Olpad and Chikli talukas of
Bulsar district.
The District Health department has engaged 40 medical teams to control the
epidemic in the severely-hit talukas of Mahuva, Vyara and Bardoli.
Meanwhile,three suspected patients from Mahuva taluka were under treatment
at the New Civil Hospital ,even as two more cases were reported from the
district, sources added.
Minister of state for Health K.C.Patel was camping in the area to supervise
relief operations along with the experts medical teams from Ahmedabad,
Surat and Baroda sources said.
