Follow-up on The Belgian Case of Yellow Fever Imported from Gambia

Mon 12 Nov 2001: Relatively stable but bleeding at injection sites,
prothrombin time 15 percent, ASAT 10 000 U/l.
Tue 13 Nov 2001: ASAT: 594 U/l, bleeding from colostomy (Morbus Crohn). In
the afternoon decreased consciousness followed later in the afternoon by
convulsions (status epilepticus). Intubation and artificial ventilation. 12
mg of highly purified neutralising murine antibodies were given (source:
Dr. Mathias Niedrig, Robert Koch Institut, Berlin, Germany). Preparations
were made for liver transplantation. During the night further deterioration
of the clinical condition.
Wed 14 Nov 2001: The patient died at 6 a.m. because of massive
gastrointestinal bleeding, shock and hepatic encephalopathy.
Post mortem examination will be performed.
