E.coli outbreak numbers rise

An outbreak of _E.coli_ O157 at a caravan park in the Highlands has now
affected a total of 15 people.
Health officials say the number of probable cases has risen to 12, with 3
children confirmed as suffering from the infection. All of those stricken
have been in contact with the Rothiemurchus Caravan Park at Coylumbridge,
near Aviemore.
Householders and businesses in the area have been advised to use boiled or
bottled water while attempts to isolate the outbreak continue. The outbreak
was confirmed on Thursday, 1 Aug 2002, and experts believe a private water
supply may have caused the bacterium to spread.
It is thought that the downpours which swept across Scotland last week
could have washed manure or other substances into what would normally have
been a safe water system.
