[ProMED and this moderator acknowledge Dr. Parry's correction of post
20030825.2144. Indeed, it is the inability of _E. coli_ O157:H7 to ferment
sorbitol that distinguishes its growth on sorbitol-MacConkey agar. - Mod. LL]
