Background information on cryptosporidiosis in Scotland.

Infection rates with Cryptosporidium peaks during March and April. From
1991 to 2002 the annual registered cases varied between 569 (2001) and 982
(1991). An outbreak of 27 cases was recorded in Ayrshire in 1988. An
outbreak of over 100 cases in Glasgow during 2002 was ascribed to the
public water system. An outbreak of 116 cases was reported in the Grampian
region during 2002. An outbreak (391 cases) was reported among British
tourists at a hotel in Majorca in 2003: 179 from England and Wales, 170
from Scotland, and 42 from Northern Ireland.
