[According to the report from the WHO above, the 1st avian influenza
case in Viet Nam during 2009 reported mistakenly as a 5-year-old girl
in the previous newswire (see prior PRO/MBDS posting Avian influenza,
human - MBDS region: Viet Nam (Thanh Hoa) 20090106.0045) is an 8-year-old girl.
The sister of the 1st avian influenza patient reportedly had died of
flu-like symptoms, and she was likely to have had contact with the
same poultry suspected to be infected with H5N1 infection.
Nevertheless, according to the newswire, laboratory tests for H5N1
infection of this suspected patient was not obtained.
More information from knowledgeable sources on the result of further
investigations on this 13-year-old girl suspected of H5N1 infection
from Thanh Hoa province would be greatly appreciated by PRO/MBDS.
