Measles outbreak (78 cases) -- Russia (Amur Oblast)

A total of 78 cases of measles have been recorded in the Amur Oblast
between 15 Apr and 20 Jun 2010. [Supplementary] immunisation against
measles is continuing in Amur Oblast. About 46 500 people have been
immunised as of 20 Jun 2010. According to epidemiological surveillance
data, sporadic cases only of measles virus infection are being recorded in
the region.

Measles epidemic update Russia (Republic of Buryatia)

There have been 17 measles cases in Ulan Ude this year [2010] according to
the office of the Buryatia regional Rosportebnadzor [Federal Service for
Surveillance of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare]. One of those
cases was an infant and 2 were under 19 years old. 11 children under 3
months old are at risk of measles. 339 children over one year of age
received measles vaccine according to the regular vaccine calendar.
Another 5 children had medical contraindications to vaccination and were
given immune globulin instead. 2600 contacts of measles cases have been
identified in Buryatia, 392 of whom are children. Among the contacts 491
had a history of measles, 255 had received a single dose of vaccine, 892
had received 2 doses of vaccine, and the immunisation status of 553 was
unknown. 808 contacts are required to receive measles vaccine.
The measles immunisation campaign in Ulan Ude continues among those aged
18-35 years, those who had only a single dose of vaccine, and health care
workers. 9700 people have been immunised -- 54 per cent of the 17 934 for
whom it is planned. 3500 city and health care workers also have been
immunised. The initial measles case in Ulan Ude was a registered Chinese
national whose infection was confirmed in the regional laboratory.
