The Dak Lak Provincial Department of Finance has agreed to allocate
VND 20.25 billion [approx USD 1 million] in support of local people
who had to kill their pigs infected with blue-ear [porcine
reproductive and respiratory syndrome] pig disease.
The financial support will be provided twice, VND 13.44 billion [USD
690 000] for the 1st stage and VND 6.81 billion [USD 350 000] for the
2nd stage.
The blue-ear pig disease has occurred in 14 of 15 districts, towns,
and cities in the whole province. By the end of October 2010, as many
as 105 023 pigs had been infected with the disease and 47 628 of them
were already killed. The situation is not yet under control and the
losses are huge.

[According to the article, porcine reproductive and respiratory
syndrome (PRRS) or blue-ear disease has spread through 14 of 15
districts in Dak Lak province. Viet Nam officials agreed to allocate
VND 20.25 billion (approx. USD 1 million) for stamping out
compensation. The situation of PRRS outbreak in Viet Nam is still not
under control.
According to Viet Nam Department of Animal Health's (DAH) update on
the highly pathogenic avian influenza and FMD situation on 5 Nov
2010, 20 provinces -- Nghe An, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Hau Giang, Lam
Dong, Tay Ninh, An Giang, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Kon Tum, Dak Nong, Tra
Vinh, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Phu Yen, Son La, Kien Giang, Nam Dinh,
Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa -- are reported to have had PRRS outbreaks
within the last 21 days.
