- Brazil (Cuiaba, Mato Grosso state). 16 Jun 2012. Laboratory tests done by Cuiaba Epidemiological Surveillance on blood samples from patients attending the public and private network in this capital confirms the circulation of dengue [virus] type 4 in the city. Since the beginning of the year [2012], 95 per cent of the 556 samples collected confirms infection by this new [to the area] virus. According to the Ministry of Health, Brazil went 30 years without registering cases of dengue [virus] type 4 [infections], but now it has reappeared.

- Brazil (Piracicaba, Sao Paulo state). 14 Jun 2012. Data from the municipal Secretariat of Health show that Piracicaba is experiencing its largest dengue outbreak in the last 5 years. According to the agency, 1531 cases of the disease are confirmed in the city during the 1st 5 months of 2012. The totals of the bulletin also show 1063 cases still awaiting laboratory confirmation. The last time there were more than 1000 positive cases were registered in the current period was in 2007, when there was an epidemic in the municipality with 5666 people positive [for dengue virus infections].

- Brazil (Salvador, Bahia state). 12 Jun 2012. According to the latest bulletin from the Salvador Secretariat of Health, so far this year 931 cases of classical dengue fever are confirmed with 13 residents with DHF, the most serious type of the disease. [So far in 2012], 3 people died of the disease.

- Colombia (Neiva, Huila department [state equivalent]). 12 Jun 2012. An epidemiological alert was declared today [12 Jun 2012] in Neiva, due to the 5 fatal dengue cases that have been reported [this year] in Neiva. This year [2012], more than 1800 dengue cases have been confirmed.

- Puerto Rico. 15 Jun 2012. Dengue virus infections continue to increase so far this year [2012], and the government may declare epidemic status in coming weeks. With 1836 suspected dengue cases reported as of last week, the Dengue Prevention Program of the Health Department, directed by Marta Patricia Cano, indicated that there now is a total of 350 more cases than reported last year [2011] (1486), for the same dates.

- Jamaica. 13 Jun 2012. Jamaican health officials have warned that there has been a spike in dengue fever cases, but says it is not at the level of an outbreak. Director of Emergency Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Marion Bullock-Duccase, said several cases have been reported in Kingston and St. Andrew and 2 other parishes, but adds this is not unusual at this time of the year.

- Viet Nam (Dong Nai province and national). 14 Jun 2012. Dengue fever has developed quickly and unexpectedly across Viet Nam's southern Dong Nai province, warned the provincial preventive medicine center in its report released on Thursday [14 Jun 2012]. Nearly 1800 people from 154 communes have contracted dengue fever, which killed one patient. In the 1st 5 months, 13 200 people were infected with dengue fever (8 died), across the country, according to the Vietnamese General Statistics Office http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/health/2012-06/14/c_131652550.htm.

- Philippines (Davao city, Davao region). 12 Jun 2012. Government hospitals in Davao City will no longer admit dengue patients from Davao del Sur as they were overwhelmed by the number of local cases, the provincial dengue prevention coordinator here said Tuesday [12 Jun 2012]. According to data from the Davao City Health Office, 96 dengue cases were recorded there in May 2012 alone, and 12 patients have died from the mosquito-borne disease since January [2012]

- India (Bangalore, Karnataka state). 13 Jun 2012. As Bangalore gears up for monsoons, hospitals in the city have recorded 3 deaths due to dengue. [Three DHF deaths among just 15 reported cases is very high, suggesting that there is significant underreporting of dengue fever cases.

- Sri Lanka. 12 Jun 2012. The Health Ministry announced that dengue has claimed 74 lives and that 11 795 dengue cases had been reported during the last 5.5 months in this year [2012]. According to ministry sources, the majority of dengue cases have been reported from the Western Province. 26 dengue deaths and 2976 dengue cases have been reported from Colombo district, 14 deaths and 2197 dengue cases from the Gampaha district, and 6 deaths and 788 dengue cases have been reported from the Kalutara district. 24 per cent out of the total number of deaths are in the 5-15 age group, while the balance (76 per cent) is in the 15-50 and over 50 age groups http://www.dailynews.lk/2012/06/12/news14.asp.

- Australia (Townsville, Queensland state). 13 Jun 2012. Another 2 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in Townsville, in north Queensland, after 2 others last week. A Queensland Health spokeswoman says 3 cases were contracted locally, while a 4th resident is thought to have contracted the disease in Bali.
