- Mexico (national). 30 Aug 2012. DHF cases in the country have increased 740 per cent in the 1st 34 weeks of the year [2012], according to Miguel Lezama Fernandez, National Director of Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Control. In addition, total figures indicate a 362 per cent increase in dengue in the country, including classical dengue fever and DHF, with the most cases occurring in the southeast region of the country. He indicated that in week 34 [19-25 Aug 2012], 23 dengue deaths were registered -- 8 more than during the same period last year [2011]. The total for the 1st 8 months of the year [2012], is 18 106 confirmed dengue cases, of which 6188 are DHF. To date, there are 23 dengue deaths in the country. Veracruz state leads in the number of dengue cases with 3733, followed by Yucatan with 2486 registered cases, and Chiapas with 1904.

- Mexico (5 states). 30 Aug 2012. The states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, and San Luis Potosi have formed a common front to combat dengue, with 4733 confirmed cases in the area. These confirmed cases are in Hidalgo, 44; San Luis Potosi, 355; Tamaulipas, 523; Nuevo Leon, 619, and Veracruz, 3192 cases confirmed to date.

- Mexico (Yucatan state). 31 Aug 2012. As of 26 Aug 2012, the Yucatan Secretariat of Health has registered 2431 dengue cases, of which 345 are DHF. There are 4 confirmed dengue deaths.

- Mexico (Motul, Yucatan state). 26 Aug 2012. The large number of classical dengue fever and DHF cases in the municipality has surpassed the capacity to provide medical attention. Unofficially, there are 750 dengue cases in the local Mexican government Social Security Clinic (IMSS) without space to admit them. There have been 25 individuals per day coming into the local IMSS including suspected cases, classical dengue fever cases, and DHF cases, which are sent immediately to hospitals in Merida for medical attention.

- Mexico (Michoacan state). 29 Aug 2012. Michoacan Sanitary District 8 has 235 registered dengue cases of which 15 are DHF.

- Mexico (Morelos state). 27 Aug 2012. In Sanitary District 11, there are 100 confirmed dengue cases in 6 municipalities in the southern area.

- Mexico (Tamaulipas state). 30 Aug 2012. The Subsecretary of Health Promotion and Prevention, Luis Fernando Garza Frausto, indicated that the Epidemiology Department reported 524 dengue cases, of which 441 are classical dengue fever and 83 are DHF. In Tamaulipas state, dengue is present in just 15 municipalities. Reynosa, Altamira, and Tampico, with 160, 151, and 74 cases, respectively, have the most cases, followed by Aldama, with 39, and Matamoros with 21; Ciudad Victoria has reported 9 cases.

- Mexico (Mexico state). 26 Aug 2012. To date, there are 67 reported classical dengue fever cases, none life-threatening. Of these, 37 are imported from other states and the remaining 30 are locally acquired in Tlatlaya, Luvianos, Tejupilco, and single cases in Valle de Bravo and Tenango municipalities.

- Mexico (Queretaro state). 26 Aug 2012. In the state, 68 probable dengue cases have been detected. Of these, 5 are confirmed, although 4 of these are imported from other states.

- Honduras (Choluteca department). 28 Aug 2012. There is an increase in classical dengue fever cases in the department [state equivalent] compared to this same time last year [2011]. As of epidemiological week 32 [5-11 Aug 2012], 26 dengue cases have been registered.

- El Salvador (national). 31 Aug 2012. A 4th dengue death is registered so far this year [2012]. Between January-August 2012, the Ministry of Health has tallied 5986 confirmed dengue cases, of which 320 are DHF. During this past week the Ministry reported 596 new dengue cases. An "orange" alert has been declared in 32 municipalities.

- El Salvador (San Salvador). 27 Aug 2012. In epidemiological week 34 [19-25 Aug 2012] there are 1281 suspected dengue cases, with an average of 183 cases per day; that implies that each day there were 71 serious cases on average.

- Colombia (Meta department). 31 Aug 2012. An official report indicated that there are 4395 dengue cases in Meta department [state equivalent], pointing out that there are 2225 cases in Villavicencio, 558 in Acacias, 345 in Granada, 166 in Guamal, 141 in Puerto Gaitan, and 175 in Puerto Lopez.

- Venezuela (Miranda state). 30 Aug 2012. A total of 74 dengue cases have been registered in Miranda state up to now. According to the Epidemiological Bulletin of the Francisco de Miranda Network, the most affected regions in the state are Barlovento, Valles del Tuy, and Altos Mirandinos. Of the total cases, 68 are classical dengue fever and 6 are DHF. The 4 dengue virus serotypes are circulating with type 2 predominating.

- Peru (Chimbote, Ancash region). 30 Aug 2012. Confirmed dengue cases increased to 543 in Chimbote (Ancash region). Women have been most affected by the disease, said the Director of the North Pacific Health Network, Maria Diaz Gil.

- Peru (Carabaya province). 29 Aug 2012. A total of 20 suspected dengue cases are reported in Loromayo and Lechemayo, San Gaban district, Province of Carabaya (Puno). They are suspected classical dengue fever cases, not DHF.

- Peru (San Martin region). 29 Aug 2012. The number of dengue cases in the San Martin region has increased to 905, according to the Regional Health Directorate, DIRESA, of that region. Of this total 33 are from Moyobamba, while the greatest number of patients with this disease are in Tarapoo and Juanjui, according to health authorities.

- Paraguay (Central department). 31 Aug 2012. Of the 28 838 confirmed dengue cases in the country from January-28 Aug 2012, 21 111 are in the Central Department [state equivalent]. Another point that raises an alert is that of the 62 dengue deaths, 64 per cent [40 deaths] are from Central department.

- Brazil (Mato Grosso state). 30 Aug 2012. The Mato Grosso state
Secretariat of Health issued the data for the period 1 Jan-30 Aug 2012
indicating 36 200 reported dengue cases. Of these, 116 were reported
as serious cases. To date, there are 16 dengue deaths, with 13
confirmed and 5 under investigation. Cuiaba, the capital of the state
of Mato Grosso, has 2410 reported dengue cases with 19 of them
serious, Sinop has 4930 reported cases, 9 of them serious, and
Rondonopolis has 1189 reported cases with one serious case.

- Brazil (Rio Claro, Sao Carlos, Araras, Sao Paulo state). 30 Aug 2012. In 2012, Rio Claro has 216 dengue cases, Sao Carlos has 29 cases and Araras has 9.

- Dominican Republic (national). 31 Aug 2012. The Ministry of Health of the Dominican Republic confirmed that this year [2012], 896 dengue cases have been registered out of 2497 febrile cases in public and private hospitals. There are 32 per cent fewer dengue cases this year than last year [2011].
