With encephalitis claiming 6 more lives, the death toll due to the disease in eastern Uttar Pradesh has mounted to 322 this year [2012].
Health officials said today [19 Sep 2012] that 6 persons died due to the disease yesterday [18 Sep 2012].
Additional Director (Health) Diwakar Prasad said 44 people suffering from encephalitis have been admitted to Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital (BRD MCH) and other government hospitals.
He said 354 people suffering from the disease are undergoing treatment in various government hospitals including BRD MCH.

[The death toll in eastern Uttar Pradesh state has climbed from 274 reported on 11 Sep 2012 (see ProMED-mail archive number 20120912.1291540) by 48 fatal cases to the 322 indicated above. With another 354 people under treatment for encephalitis currently, that number can be expected to climb still further. As with many previous reports, the etiological agent responsible for these cases is not indicated.
