Pigs slaughtered in Rostov region
---------------------------------
In the course of actions to eradicate foci of African swine fever
(ASF) in the Rostov region, it was planned to kill more than 23 000
pigs. The Southern regional centre of the Ministry of Emergency
Situations reported that 17 705 pigs have already been killed and 5517
are still to be destroyed. Currently, there are 7 quarantine posts on
the border between the Rostov region and the Republic of Kalmykia. In
total, 49 quarantine posts and 43 mobile patrols of the traffic police
are currently operating throughout the territory of the Rostov region.

Since 29 Sep 2009, 21 foci of ASF have been registered in 5 districts
of the Rostov region, namely Konstantinovsky, Morozovsky, Tsimlyansky,
Remontnensky, and Veselovsky. According to preliminary data, the
economic loss in the Rostov region, related to ASF, amounts to 46
million rubles (1.6 million USD).
